Hatteras Island · North Carolina
Not just things to buy. A little bit of the life that brings us back to Hatteras.
The hattiebuilt origin
“Those that choose to spend their time South of the Bonner are a distinct breed.”
Whether Hatteras Island is an annual destination or the narrow strip of sand you call home, the original hattiebuilt idea was rooted in something simple: Hatteras is a gift.
For the people who know it, appreciate it and are built for it, hattiebuilt was created as a lifestyle brand celebrating the ease, serenity and untamed culture of life on this barrier island.
Why Hattie. Why Hatteras.
Our connection to Hatteras started in the early 1990s. While serving aboard the USS Mississippi out of Virginia, I would often sail past the Outer Banks and make my way down here whenever shore leave allowed.
Years later, I brought Tanya to the island for the first time. We fell in love with Avon, eventually bought a home here, and quickly discovered that life on Hatteras is different from the rest of the Outer Banks. A little quieter. A little wilder. And very much its own place.
hattiebuilt became one of the places we visited every time we came down, we'd pick up the year's Hattie shirt or sweatshirt, stop into The Cape for a drink, and settle back into island time.
So for us, Hattie isn't simply a business. It's something we already knew, enjoyed and believed in.
Our goal is simple: honor what was built here, keep the things people love, and continue building Hattie with the same spirit that made it special in the first place.
The promise
Hattie doesn't need to become bigger just for the sake of being bigger. It should become better at sharing what people already love about it.
That means thoughtful products, North Carolina makers when they make sense, real Hatteras stories, and enough restraint to keep the whole thing personal.
“A little bit of Hatteras, wherever you are.”
